How do I sync CD's to my I Pod Touch?

I am trying to sync the CD that I have downloaded in the computer to my I=pod. In the past I have always just used the plug in cables. Now the directions say to use an USB cable. Don't the plug ins work anymore? i never had any problem until i-changes their program.
